BEHIND THE SONG

Stella is my dog. She’s a tiny little 5lb toy poodle who is very affectionate until a certain friend comes to call and then she only has eyes for Ivan. Stella (The Boom-Boom Song) is a tongue-in-cheek tale of jealousy.

The music came first, once again, only this time I wrote it on the bass and then looked for chords on the guitar that would fit. Not many songs form that way but Stella did. Once I had worked out the chords I came up with the idea of making it a song of unrequited love based on how my dog’s heart belongs to another.

I tried singing it a few times but it became clear pretty quickly that it was way out of my range. In stepped Steady Eddie to save the day – and the song. He did a masterful job singing it and Magic Mike’s drums elevated it to another level.
